Summer Skirts

shirt : ANA skirt: Target sandals: Target

I've been trying to come up with some new ways to wear my skirts from last summer and have been pairing them with 3/4 length sleeve shirts and a belt. I think it give it a more sophisticated look, and that means I can wear it to work. Wahoo!

Happy Father's Day Dad!

Happy Father's Day Dad! Whether it be making us treasure hunts and special oatmeal, teaching me how to waterski, snowboarding with us in the backyard, making sure I know how to change a flat tire, helping me move 37,484 times, and always keeping me calm during each "crisis" I go through, thanks for always being an awesome dad. I couldn't ask for a better one! Love you!

I also don't think our lack of embarrassment in public would exist without him (see picture above)

Relaxing

Had a great day on the rocks around the Incline shore today with friends! So glad to be having such beautiful weather.

Farmer's Market

We went to the King's Beach (our newest town of residence) farmer's market yesterday, and it was great! I loveee farmer's markets, and try to get a lot of my fruit, veggies and bread from them during the summer. This one is conveniently located right on the lake, so we had a great time watching all the action on the water and all the little kiddies running around.

Homemade Chinese Food

So since I know all of you are wondering,
"what does Kristin eat for dinner every night?"

I figured I would share a new favorite recipe!

I found an amazing sweet and sour chicken recipe here.

I figured it would be kindaaa chinese-food-tasting, but it ended up tasting exactly like it!

Plus it is not too difficult, which means I have made it twice in the past two weeks.

It was even taste-test approved by Mr. Picky himself (boyfriend), who refuses to eat much outside the realm of chicken tenders, lettuce with ranch dressing, "crispy" apples, and fruit snacks.

Sweet and Sour Chicken
from My Kitchen Cafe

3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup cornstarch
salt & pepper
1/4 cup canola oil (I used olive oil)

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Cut boneless chicken breasts into chunks. Season with salt and pepper. Coat chicken in egg and then in cornstarch. Pan fry in oil until golden brown, but not cooked through. Place in a single layer in a baking dish.

 Sauce

3/4 cup sugar
4 tablespoons ketchup
1/2 cup vinegar
(The first time I used balsamic vinegar, the second I used apple cider. Both tasted great.)
                                                                1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon garlic powder

Mix all ingredients together and pour over chicken. Bake chicken for 6o minutes, turning every 15 minutes. You can also make extra sauce – add all ingredients to a saucepan and simmer until thick.

I made extra sauce and added it to the chicken halfway through baking. It gave it a really thick coating, which I think helps give it more flavor if you put it on top of rice.

Voila! Dinner. And good leftovers too.

Vintage Finds

Added a TON of new vintage finds to my Etsy shop today!

My ever patient boyfriend was kind enough to take about a bajilion somewhat awkward pictures of me. This made for an hour and a half of "Are you taking the picture? Let me know when you are going to take the picture, OK? Should I smile now? Does my leg look weird like this? OWEN!"

Which most of the time ended with a stellar pic of me falling sideways in my heels with my eyes closed and waving to no one in particular. Attractive, yes.

But in the end I think we came up with some good ones, and I can't wait to finish uploading them to my shop!

Happy Hump Day everyone!

dock chilling is the cool thing to do

I think I forgot docks existed after all this snow.

Water? Water not in the form of clumpy freezing grossness that prevents you from getting outside and doing anything fun? OH YAH!

But then I discovered this little gem while waiting to run some errands. Got a little sun on my face, watched some boats speed across the lake, and generally was put in an excellent mood altogether.

Internet? Who Needs It?

Hello all my long lost friends! Without the internet this past week in the new place, I haven't been able to post all my wondrous pieces of wit, beauty and knowledge (heh). But come Thursday, we will be connected to the world again! Wahooo!

Until then I will entertain myself with lots of Gilmore Girls DVDs and strawberry mojitos.
